Program

Steve Olson introduced Dr. Benjamin Goldstein. Dr. Goldstein, of SRJC discussed the various programs the community college offers under his directorship. The theme was Education, Food and Farming in Sonoma County. Dr Goldstein is responsible for overseeing departments including The Culinary program, Shone Farm, winemaking and brewing programs.

He described how SRJC provides community education and how SRJC touches the entire community. Culinary Department students are in high demand by area restaurants and the JC can almost guarantee that any student graduating from the program will have job offers immediately.

After his presentation, Dr. Goldstein answered questions about the culinary program, wine produced by the JC and where it can be purchased. Several stores carry Shone Farm wines and the proceeds help keep the program going. Wine club members can purchase wine produced by the JC program and wine can be picked up directly from Shone Farm on various dates. Brew Masters from a couple of area craft breweries teach classes in brewing science. He noted that the JC is not yet authorized to sell brewery products (that’s beer, Doug Johnson) currently, but will in the future.
