LAUGH YOUR WORRIES AWAY

Linda Shively

After the diagnosis and death of her almost 4-year old daughter, Linda Shively has shared her journey back to joy with others, inspiring them to move through difficult challenges and recover their joy and purpose.  While navigating her own grief journey, Linda focused on studying brain and mind function and sharing how laughter has the power to promote physical and emotional health and well-being.  A powerful speaker, she has reached thousands of individuals, families, and organizations with her message:  no matter the level of grief, frustration, or difficulty, the challenges you face do not have to limit your ability to create a life filled with joy and meaning.

A Certified Life and Executive Coach, Laughter Yoga Leader, and Neuro Linguistic Programming (NLP) practitioner, Linda also holds a B.S. in psychobiology from UCLA.

We all have worries and stress whether in our personal, professional, or community life. Come learn the pitfalls of staying stuck in worry and how to lighten your load, reduce your stress, and have fun.

A man entered the bus with both of his front pockets full of golf balls and sat down next to a beautiful blonde. The puzzled blonde kept looking at him and his bulging pockets. Finally, after many such glances from her, he said: “it’s golf balls.” Nevertheless, the blonde continued to look at him for a very long time, deeply thinking about what he had said. After several minutes, not being able to contain her curiosity any longer, she asked; ‘Does it hurt as much as tennis elbow?

Club Assembly I

President Julia presented the “Rotary Code of Conduct”, which she hadn’t known existed until it was sent to her by the DG (insert snarky comment here).  He did so after Prez Julia had reported a complaint was filed by a guest regarding what the guest perceived to be sexual harassment. The person who complained was a guest and prospective member, so this is a very serious situation on a number of fronts. Apparently a male club member (we assume) made a comment to the woman about her being attractive. In our rapidly changing world, this is considered an affront to women. She will likely never come back to our club again. President Julia and then Assistant District Governor Marnie (Hey, it was great to see you again, Marnie!) did their best to explain to the members of our club that this is not alright. The incident was reported to District and the club member has been counseled. Members are expected to be friendly, courteous and respectful of guests as well as each other at all times. This is NOT the 1970’s anymore, guys!

President Julia shared a number of ways in which members can be of service and value to the club. In addition, she filled a couple of vacant positions. Avenues of service in our club include Club service.

Judy Glenn offered to take over as Christmas Chair.  Doug Johnson already has his bets down in Vegas, so it was natural for him to run the Super Bowl Squares.

*To see what is required for a Presidential Citation, go to: myrotary.org. to search for “presidential citation dashboard”, click on the first item, “Learn about how your Club, etc.”, Under “Citation for Rotary Clubs” there are two blue highlighted items.  Click on the one that is “Rotary Citation Dashboard”.  Choose 2017-18, and you can see what is needed, and where we are as a club in our quest for recognition.
