PIVOT FOR SUCCESS

AJ MacQuarrie

A J MacQuarrie - Pivot for Success

Are you a “Wantrepreneur” – an entrepreneur with an idea, business, or goal that is slipping further out of reach?   Is your business just not where you want it to be?

Come on September 6th to hear A.J. MacQuarrie share his top mindset strategies to help you achieve the success you desire when “the big win” seems unattainable. Perhaps you’ve psyched yourself up, but you’ve found yourself on a crazy roller coaster ride with some stellar highs followed by some unexpected deep dives. Your success might be a lot closer than you think, but it can be all too easy to lose momentum when life throws you or your business a monkey wrench.

How you handle the adversities in your path will determine your success. A.J. learned these lessons in part by being a contestant on “Dragons’ Den”, the Canadian version of “Shark Tank”.  Although he did not win, the experience helped him achieve great success within the first year of his business venture.   You will not want to miss A.J. share his simple mindset pivot to get you and your company recalibrated for success as well.

Opening Ceremonies:

Diane Moresi led us in the Pledge of Allegiance and Dan Schell read us a quote from Fredrick Buechner, “Of the Seven Deadly Sins, anger is possibly the most fun. To lick your wounds, to smack your lips over grievances long past, to roll over your tongue the prospect of bitter confrontations still to come, to savor to the last toothsome morsel both the pain you are given and the pain you are giving back–in many ways it is a feast fit for a king.  The chief drawback is that what you are wolfing down is yourself.  The skeleton at the feast is you.”

Sunshine Report:

Wally Lowry is back in the hospital after a fall.  Stay tuned for more details.

Raffle:

New member, Michael Moore (“I don’t need a mike.  I am a Mike”) handled the raffle today and Bob Sorenson’s ticket was pulled.  Alas, it was not meant to be and he got $10.00 instead.

Joke of the Week:

Little Donna was in the back yard filling in a hole when her neighbor peered over the fence.

Interested in what the rosy-faced youngster was doing, he asked, “What are you doing there, Donna?”  “My goldfish died,” replied little Donna tearfully without looking up, “and I’ve just buried him.”  The neighbor laughed and said condescendingly, “That’s a really big hole for a goldfish, isn’t it?”  Little Donna patted down the last heap of earth then replied, “That’s because he’s inside your cat.”

Announcements:

There will be a joint social of 4 of the Santa Rosa Rotary clubs on Monday, September 11th when District Governor Bob Rogers is visiting.  It will be held at St Rose 5:00 to 7:30.  More details to come.

There is a joint social/fundraiser for The Living Room that will be on Friday, September 29th at the Living Room.  The cost is $10.00 and you are asked to bring a side dish or dessert.  See Andrea Geary for the details.  She is taking the reservations and your $10.00 (checks made payable to Rotary East, I do believe).

President Julia said that we will be passing the hat for Houston District 5890 in the near future.  Our district is attempting to get a hold of someone from the area to determine their needs.

Doug Johnson is looking for someone to oversee the Monte Rio rest stop for the Grand Fondo on Saturday, September 30th.  The job is just to oversee the prep work that needs to be done.  Volunteers (and there are a dependable 15 or so) need to be out in Monte Rio by 7:00 and we are usually packed up and done by 11:00.  Please let him know if you can do it because he will be out of town this year.  Our club does this in exchange for all the assistance that the Santa Rosa Cycling club does for the Giro Bello.

Kathleen Archer had the last of the winery coupons to give away.

Secret Greeter:

Charlie Howard-Gibbons was the secret greeter and the person who welcomed him first this week was Diane Moresi.  She gets a free lunch!  Remember to say “Hello!” to your fellow Rotarians because you never know when or who is the secret greeter!

New and Returning Paul Harris Fellows:

Kim Graves gave out some new certificates and pins today.  Craig Meltzner, Paul Hamilton, Rich de Lambert, Doug Roberts, Chuck Wear and Kim herself!  For the record, Steve Olson has 9, so his new Paul Harris pin has rubies!

Retirement cut the tie: Karen Ball and Don McMillan

Retirement cut the tie: Karen Ball and Don McMillan

Don McMillan has retired!

Just like it was done to past President Jose, Karen Ball cut off Don McMillan’s tie.  Jackie is off on vacation…..does she know that Don retired?

Recognitions:

Rich de Lambert has a new grandson.  That now means he has 18 grandkids and 4 great-grandkids.

Jack and Pris Abercrombie just celebrated 60 years of marriage on a cruise.

Casey D’Angelo is just back from Austria.  He managed to take a fall on a hike in the Alps and broke his arm.  It did not slow him down a bit!

Pete Lescure pointed out that Jack Atkin is on the County of Sonoma pension review committee.  You can be sure Jack will look out for the public’s money!

Ted Wilmsen got to see 90% of the total eclipse while up north.

Steve Marburger is back after having knee replacement surgery.

Guest Speaker:  LAUGH YOUR WORRIES AWAY – Linda Shively

After the diagnosis and death of her almost 4-year old daughter, Linda Shively has shared her journey back to joy with others, inspiring them to move through difficult challenges and recover their joy and purpose. While navigating her own grief journey, Linda focused on studying brain and mind function and sharing how laughter has the power to promote physical and emotional health and well-being. She had us doing deep breathing and laughing to demonstrate the built in ability we have to cope with stress.
