LATE BREAKING NEWS: As of 4 pm Friday afternoon, Richard Lazovick is out of surgery. The doctor said everything went well, and the new kidney is producing urine…a good sign. Our thoughts and prayers are with for a speedy recovery.

Tim Fawcett is in the hospital after a friend found him on the ground in a pool of blood. He had fallen off a ladder and hit his head. He has no recollection of what happened.

Raffle

$93 Yankee Dollars were in the pot. Pete Lescure walked confidently up and drew the wrong colored marble. He then walked away in slump shouldered shame. How’s that for painting a word picture? 😉

Guests

Our guests today included: Phyllis Anderson (Kris’ mother), Natlia Aguilar, Katelyn Johnson and Jacob Gospe.

Cathy’s a Clown

Three old ladies were sitting on a park bench talking amongst themselves when a flasher came by. The flasher stood right in front of them and opened his trench coat.

The first old lady had a stroke. Then the second old lady had a stroke. But the third old lady… she couldn’t reach that far.

Program

Doug Johnson introduced Lakeport two-time President Jennifer Strong, our speaker today. Jennifer shared her Rotary story and told us when she realized exactly “why” she is a Rotarian. This happened as a result of the September 12th, 2015 Valley Fire. Jennifer noted that 1/3 of the 60,000 population of Lake County was evacuated during the fire.

Jennifer had an idea to try to raise $50,000 to help Lake County fire victims. She created a flyer on her phone that included the Rotary logo. The power of the Rotary logo showed when donations flooded in from 80 Rotary Clubs from around the world. $786,000 was raised because of the power of the Rotary logo. $270,000 business grants were spent to help get people back to work. Other funds went to reforestation, grief counseling, after school programs and animal care. A new OES Notification system.

The program was needed again in the 2016 Clayton fire that wiped out 200 houses in Lower Lake. Again, the funds started rolling in. Another $150,000 came in. A total of $950,000 now had been raised. In March, 3,000 trees were planted in Middletown when 400 showed up to help.

October 8th 14 fires broke out, burning 8,000 homes and businesses and killing 40. So far $1,500.000 has been raised so far that will be distributed with zero overhead expense. More can and will be raised and distributed.

Two weeks after the fire, the scheduled ride fundraiser went on as planned. 200 bikes were donated to children who lost everything, each with their name on it. It was while getting a hug from a child who had received a new bike that Jennifer knew why she is a Rotarian.
