Why Buy From Your Local Farmer?

Lamb_Joe Pozzi

PLEDGE

Sam Saunders led us in the Pledge of Allegiance.

INVOCATION

Sam Saunders then also gave the invocation, which was a short history lesson about the Pledge of Allegiance.

PROGRAM

Our program came early today as we were treated to a holiday themed choral program by Cantiamo Sonoma, a local a cappella group led by Carol Menke and introduced by one of our own, tenor Keven Brown.  Bravo!

VISITING ROTARIANS

Ryan Thomas introduced us to Muriel from the evening club, and Les Crawford from the Sebastopol Club.  Les is a former member of our Club and a Past President of our Club.

ROTARIANS WITH GUESTS

Sam McMillan introduced his wife Rita, his son Scott, and his grandson Josh.  Patty Schwartz introduced, again, Les Crawford.  Blaine Goodwin introduced his good friend Bill Crowley, who is possibly going to join the Club.  Good work, Blaine!  Cathy Vicini introduced her daughter in law, Ninotchka, and grand-daughter, Stella.

SUNSHINE REPORT

Eileen Carlisle reported good news and some not so good news: Fred Levin is back with us (that’s the good news), and Jack Abercrombie is ill but on the mend.  Cards welcome, but no visitors please.  His wife, Pris, does need some help, so make a casserole already!  Rich DeLambert announced that Dan Schell is recuperating and will be back with us next week.

Didn't win, but received his $10

Sam McMillan’s grandson, Joshua, didn’t win but received his $10

RAFFLE

Peter Holewinski did the raffle honors this week, which is now up to $478.  Woo hoo!  Sam McMillan’s grandson had the winning ticket, but could not navigate the strange meanderings of the number picking and walked away with $10, which is actually a lot for a 5 year old!

PAUL HARRIS

Kim Graves doled out Paul Harris Certificates and pins to the following wonderfully generous Rotarians: Cathy Vicini, who did one for her beautiful granddaughter Stella, Jeff Gospe, who did one for his adorable son Jacob, Bob Sorensen, whose pin has 4, count ‘em, 4 stars, Tim Delaney did one for his wife, Leigh Anne, Eileen Carlisle did one for her brother, Bruce, Judy Glenn, and Sam McMillan, who did one for his grandson, Josh.

Emily Harrington leads off the Giro Bello Campaign for 2016

Emily Harrington leads off the Giro Bello Campaign for 2016

GIRO BELLO

Throwing caution to the wind, Prez Doug then turned the meeting over to Emily Harrington, who was a bit over-excited and dressed like a carrot.  Really.  Tim Delaney, dressed like a Giro Bello rider (at least that makes sense) was her cheerleader.  Will Haymaker held up a sign a la Vanna White.  Get excited about helping out with sponsorships!  Enlist your contacts!  Sponsorship dollars are really really really important!  Our ride is June 25th, 2016.  Everyone needs to raise $500 each!  That way we get sponsorships to $50,000.  There are incentives: for every $500 that you raise, your name goes in to a box.  Prizes will be drawn.  Gift certificates!  Restaurant certificates!  A flight to Half Moon Bay with Tim Delaney!  A weekend at Kim Grave’s house!  Former Prez Les Crawford was so impressed with Vanna White that he stood up and donated $100 on the spot!

ANNOUNCEMENTS
[list style=”arrow” color=”blue” el_position=”first last”]

  • President Doug required all announcers to wear Emily’s carrot top!
  • Patty Schwartz announced that she and Les are collecting blankets and sleeping bags for the homeless.
  • Julia Parranto gave an update on the Rotary Children’s Christmas Party, which will be on December 19th. The committee is meeting next week at her house to make the cards for the kids.  A whole crew is baking cookies for the kids.  Bring your cookies to the meeting on December 16th.  Julia also announced that she is buying a table for the January 3rd RI President speech in San Jose.  If you want to join her at a table for 10, there is only 1 spot left!  Julia then felt moved by the carrot top to make a $1500 sponsorship donation to Giro Bello.
  • Ginny Cannon announced that the poinsettia project goal has been met! It should be a great party!  It’s next week after the meeting.  Join us!
  • Prez Doug mistook Ted Wilmsen for Sam McMillan? Anyway Ted Wilmsen encouraged us all to sign up for the dictionary project, which will be the last week of January.  If you haven’t done it before, it’s a great experience.
  • Kerrie Chambers wants your time, not your money! Please sign up for Salvation Army bell ringing.  Also a great experience.
  • Elizabeth Karbousky reminded us that the Holiday Social is next Thursday the 10th at Corrick’s at 6 p.m. Bring an appetizer or a bottle of wine.
  • Don McMillan then disturbed the meeting and Tim Delaney so much that he was forced to pony up a Giro Bello sponsorship of $500. And the crowd went wild.

PAUL HARRIS REDUX

Jeff Gospe showed up a bit late, imagine that, but had the generosity of spirit to donate $500 to Giro Bello when given his pin!  Way to go!

Rotarian of the Month Paul Hamilton

Rotarian of the Month Paul Hamilton

ROTARIAN OF THE MONTH

27 year Rotarian Paul Hamilton is our Rotarian of the Month for November 2015.  Paul took over the Veterans Day Program from Nick Knickerbocker with grace and competence.

RECOGNITIONS

President Doug threw a new car sale: $20 for any admission of a recent new car.  Taking advantage of this were Eileen Carlisle, Julia Parranto, Bob Sorensen, Brandon Uhrich,  and Peter Holewinski.

Prez Doug thanked all the helpers: Gary Swartz, Eileen Carlisle, Kim Graves, Judy Glenn and Peter Holewinski.

WEEKLY THERAPY SESSION

Cathy Vicini once again told us a good joke:

A family had twin boys whose only resemblance to each other were their looks. Opposite in every way, one was an eternal optimist, the other a doom and gloom pessimist.

Just to see what would happen, on Christmas day their father loaded the pessimist’s room with every imaginable toy and game. The optimist’s room he loaded with horse manure.

That night the father passed by the pessimist’s room and found him sitting amid his new gifts crying bitterly.

“Why are you crying?” the father asked.

“Because my friends will be jealous, I’ll have to read all these instructions before I can do anything with this stuff, I’ll constantly need batteries, and my toys will eventually get broken.” answered the pessimist twin.

Passing the optimist twin’s room, the father found him dancing for joy in the pile of manure. “What are you so happy about?” he asked.

To which his optimist twin replied, “There’s got to be a pony in here somewhere!”
