OPENING CEREMONIES

Karen Ball led us in reciting the Pledge of Allegiance and Ginny Cannon said “Happy New Year” in Hawaiian and read a poem on kindness, “Be kind to wishers who haven’t gotten their wishes…”

VISITORS

Mark Burchill brought Mel Konrad and her brother August.  Karen Ball brought Dennis Ball.  Cecil Humes brought Gerrie Humes.  Kim Murphy brought DeWayne White.

VISITING ROTARIANS

Barbara Beedon rejoined us today from Sebastopol.  She knows how much fun this meeting is going to be!

RAFFLE

Bart Eddy won the raffle!

Bart Eddy won the raffle!

$137 in the pot today and Bart Eddy won it!

JOKE OF THE DAY

Cathy Vicini told a joke about the missing baby Jesus from the church manger.  Cute!

SUNSHINE REPORT

Layne Bowen had surgery on his eyes.  He’s doing fine, but it does get him out of bulletin duty for a couple of months.  LOL!

THANK YOU TO ALL WHO HELPED WITH THE DECEMBER PROJECTS

President Jose asked everyone who helped with bell ringing, the Vigil Light party and the Children’s Christmas/Nutcracker party to stand.  I swear that 80% of the room was standing!  Thank you to all!

ROTARY CHANGE BUCKETS UPDATE

Shari Shamsavari hosted a soiree on December 18th and collected $414.00!  President Jose was invited, but could not attend, so he fined himself with a contribution to round it up to $500.  We are now at $1040.17; more than half way to our goal of $2000!

PAUL HARRIS FELLOWSHIP

20161228_123641Kim Murphy has contributed $1000 in her husband’s name, so DeWayne White was here today to get his certificate and Paul Harris pin.

ANNOUCEMENTS

Ted Wilmsen says that the dictionaries will be available on January 11th for pick up.  He has one school that still needs two people for delivery and another 3 schools that need 1 more person.  Give Ted a call if you can help.

RECOGNITIONS

Doug Johnson (who was not here) and President Jose were recognized for having new grandchildren recently born. Nona Lucas was recognized (also not here) for her birthday.  Kim Murphy volunteered a $100 donation from Nona.

We already know that Debi Zaft makes the best caramels.  She gave some to President Jose and he is buying two squares on the Paul Harris raffle because now he knows too!

ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING

This is the time of year that we nominate and elect people to serve on our board in the upcoming year(s).  New directors for 2017-2019:  Steve Baime, Jeff Kolin, Laura Held and Peter Holewinski.  President for 2017-2018 Julia Parranto.  President Elect for 2018 -2019 is Tony Roehrick and President Elect-Elect for 2019-2020 is Cathy Vicini.  The vote was unanimous!

TODAY’S PROGRAM:  The Annual Trivial Pursuit Challenge!

20161228_13141920161228_124414Today we had just 5 teams playing, but what teams they were!  Julia Parranto was our emcee for the game.  As is usual, as soon as your team loses 2 questions, you are out of the game.  In the first round, 4 of the 5 teams got their answer wrong!  I don’t think we have ever had that happen before.  Table 6 was out first.  Then followed by teams 8 and 9.  Table 4 got their last question wrong so table 7 had to get their question right to win.  They did not!  Table 4 wins the match when they got the last question right!!!!! $176 divided by 10 people.  We put a few dollars in the Polio Plus change buckets (yes, your bulletin editor was at the winning table).  Rumor has it that table 7 put all their second place winnings on the Polio Plus bucket on their table.  Bravo Rotary Club members for coming today and having some fun!
