PROGRAM

Craig Schultz raffles of an autographed poster from the movie

Craig Schulz raffles of an autographed poster from the movie

Speaker Craig Schulz – Son of Charles Schulz and producer of Peanuts movie. Craig shared with us how animation is done and the incredible number of hours required. The average production time for an animated film is over 3 years. Blue Sky Animation had a crew of 400 plus people working on the film.

Craig wrote the story for the film script.  Craig asked that the Blue Sky crew in Connecticut refer to his father as “Sparky” and recognize he is looking down overseeing the project. He described the challenges of using 3D animation in the movie and how the production managers accepted the challenge. Each character had its own lead animator.

Craig gave an overview of the two parallel story lines running throughout the film.  In addition, he shared lots of technical information and challenges in animating a comic strip. Interestingly, Sparky was ultimately referred to as the film’s production designer. A very fun and informative program!

Craig auctioned off a rare Peanuts movie poster for $1,000 which included a screening for 5 at Craig’s personal theater. Cathy Vicini was the winning bidder.
