PROGRAM

Speaker Brian Sobel

Speaker Brian Sobel

This week’s speaker is an acknowledged expert who is called frequently by Bay Area news stations to weigh in on political matters. He is Brian Sobel, principal of Sobel Communications.  Brian has been a consultant for over 25 years and has served in the public sector as a planning director and vice mayor of Petaluma and was once a candidate for the California State Assembly.

Today, Brian gave us a run down on the 2016 presidential candidates and answered numerous questions in a lively give and take of ideas. Ultimately, Brian believes firmly that the voters will have a choice between Hillary Clinton and one of the more traditional republican candidates (think Cruz or Christie) rather than the current leader in the polls Donald Trump.

While Trump is currently popular, Brian ultimately thinks the Republican Party will tire of his act and will nominate a more traditional politician to represent them in the election. He also believes that Bernie Sanders will also fall by the wayside in favor of Hillary.  The PAC money has allowed many candidates to linger longer than is probably good for either party at this point.

Next week’s program is our club’s annual Public Safety Awards luncheon.  We will have many guests from the City of Santa Rosa and Fire Departments and who knows, maybe Past President Marnie Goldschlag will be here to introduce them all to us!
