BS, Humboldt State University, Wildlife Management

Margaret has worked in the field of environmental education and research for over 15 years developing curriculum and teaching natural history classes for the California Academy of Sciences, Santa Rosa Junior College, and Pepperwood. Prior to her career as an Educator and Administrator, Margaret worked as a wildlife biologist studying endangered birds and bears in Alaska, Oregon, and on Midway Island. Her passion for travel and wildlife has taken her to six continents, often dragging her family along with her on adventures.  Margaret lives in Petaluma with her husband and two boys, and enjoys taking hikes in our regional parks and birdwatching at Schollenberger.

Ginny Cannon reported that Richard Lazovick’s father Paul passed away last week. Tony Roehrick fell and broke cracked his ribs while helping his daughter move.

Raffle

Robby Fouts has nine marbles, which is more than some of us gave him credit for. Carolyn Fassi drew the wrong marble.

Cathy’s Clown Show

Cathy shared a Montana rancher joke.

Foundation News

Dan Balfe shared a brief presentation on the Foundation.
Dan explained how Paul Harris funds are collected and used. Dan asked the club to average a $100 per club member in PH donations.

Happy Birthday to You!

Casey Carter announced January birthdays. Marnie Goldschlag and Kathy Schwartz were on hand to celebrate their January birthdays.

Rotarian of the Month

Past president Julia shared some information from last night’s board meeting. At the Christmas program Tim Fawcett reprised his role as Santa Claus and is December’s Rotarian of the Month. Cathy Vicini generously offered to pay Tim’s dues this year.

Casey Carter could use people to help Tim Fawcett practice driving before he takes his DMV test. Also, he needs help running errands.

Rich de Lambert asked for reading sign ups to work for one hour with Tim. *If you haven’t done this, this writer highly encourages it. The time goes fast and it’s very rewarding to help a fellow Rotarian in such a personal way.

Program
Don McMillan shared photos and stories of his 2 month hike through Spain with his high school pal, John. The route they took is an ancient pilgrimage route.

Don shared some historical information about the trail and the sites along the way. The trail is 470 miles as the crow flies, but over 535 miles when accounting for elevation changes.
