PRESIDENT JOSE GUILLEN YEAR IN REVIEW

Jose Guillen

President Jose will retrace his year’s journey and highlight our club’s accomplishments.  He will reflect on this year’s theme “Service above-self, leads to serving humanity.”  The many club accomplishments and fellowship are reasons for celebration and gratitude.  Members will be encouraged to share their stories and memories as well as share one thing they would like our club to continue to do and one thing they would like to see improved.

Chris JohnsonSunshine Report:

Not so good today.  With great sadness President Jose announced that Jim Johnson passed away on Sunday. Jim’s son, Chris, was here today and stood up to talk about his dad and thank the Rotary Club for being such an important part of his life since 1981.  If you missed it, there was a very nice obituary in the Press Democrat in Wednesday’s paper.

Raffle:

Today there was $110.00 in the pot and seven marbles remaining.  Paul Hamilton’s number was chosen, but he did not pull out the correct marble.

Joke of the Day:

Cathy had a groaner today, I herd.

President Jose’s trip to Columbia:

President Jose got a call from the State Department to go to Bogota, Colombia to help update their judicial system to fight the war on drugs.  More coca is being grown now than in the 1980’s!  So off he went with others to help the Colombian court system with other people in the know.  The Colombian embassy is the 2nd largest in the world.  He met up with the Rotary Club of Chapinero de Bogota for a family event.

Recognitions:

Jeff Gospe was not the winner of the lunch with Warren Buffett, but he was photographed by a cardboard cutout of Warren Buffett……it looked pretty real!

Kim Graves is celebrating her 40th wedding anniversary!

Matthew Henry has been coaching his son’s little league team and it sounds like he has been a little afraid of the ball.  At this last week’s game he got his courage and hit not one, but two base hits!

Welcome to our Newest Rotarian:

Bob Bratberg who has been visiting for a number of weeks was officially inducted into our club today!  He has been a member of other Rotary clubs and we are very excited that he has chosen to join our club! He is an attorney and we will hear more about Bob is the weeks to come.

Jack TibbittsToday’s Speaker – Jack Tibbitts

First of all, Jack is the son of former member Penny Tibbits.  Jack was here to talk about the City of Santa Rosa’s housing action plan.

Measure C did not pass, but there is a lot more that the city is working on when it comes to housing.   First of all they want to streamline permits, costs and predictability.  Apartments that will be coming soon are  247 in the DeTurk project, 76 units in the Pullman Lofts and Burbank Housing is using sweat equity to build the Catalina Townhomes.  It looks like the County of Sonoma may contribute as much as $3 million a year to Santa Rosa housing.  For further information:
