WHERE IS CYBERCRIME REALLY COMING FROM?

Steve Marburger

CyberCrime

CyberCrime

Cybercrime netted a whopping $450 billion in profits last year, with 2 billion records lost or stolen worldwide. In a November 2016 Ted Talk, security expert Caleb Barlow calls out the insufficiency of our current strategies to protect our data. His solution? We need to respond to cybercrime with the same collective effort as we apply to a health care crisis, sharing timely information on who is infected and how the disease is spreading. If we’re not sharing, he says, then we’re part of the problem.

Following the video, our own IT expert Steve Marburger of Pipeline IT will follow up with more alarming information and what we can do to protect our own personal and business data.

There is no doubt that this topic is among the most relevant in the news today!

ANNOUNCEMENTS

Jeff  Kolin announced the need for sponsors for Giro Bello, our big annual fundraiser. Ann Gospe will return as the lead for SignUp Genius, our tool for club members to volunteer for Giro Bello. Jeff asked for response asap from past coordinators so that we can get rolling on logistical planning.

To promote our premier fundraiser, Giro Bello, Rotarians are encouraged to pass out flyers. We have 1,000’s of them. Don’t be shy!

Sam McMillan brought back penguins from his trip to Monterrey and donated $100 toward his grandson’s Paul Harris.

Debi Zaft unintentionally washed her cell phone after taking a selfie. Her daughter sent her a new phone, so Debi donated $25.

Ryan Thomas donated $45 to the foundation in recognition of his son’s basketball team.

Rich de Lambert donated the shirt off his back (long story) from the Sonoma State basketball team.
