PROGRAM

Thea and JackieJackie McMillan introduced Thea Hensel, who gave an interesting presentation on the long road taken to acquire and develop the Southeast Greenway. Originally scheduled to be an extension of Highway 12 that was originally scheduled to cross Spring Lake before crossing into Sonoma Valley, the plan has since been abandoned. In 2014, Caltrans was finally instructed to dispose of its interest in the property.

Jose Guillen and TheaIn 2009 the SEG campaign was launched.  A variety of agencies have joined together in partnership to try to purchase the land to develop a greenway. Those agencies include: City of Santa Rosa, Sonoma County Water Agency, Sonoma County Regional parks, Landpaths, Sonoma Land Trust and the SRSE Greenway Campaign.  The current vision includes bike lanes and community gardens. Creeks, restored native trees and grasses and abundant wildlife are currently present along the undeveloped greenway. SEG has reached out to schools for ideas of ways to incorporate the SEG into their curriculum.
