SPECIAL THANKSGIVING ISSUE

Dear Members of the Rotary Club of Santa Rosa:

During this Thanksgiving week, I would like to thank all of you for making our club the best and “most active” club in District 5130. During the first five months of my year as your club president, I have been amazed by the level of involvement and commitment that our club members have to Rotary, our club, the local community, and the world.

As a club we have accomplished so much this Rotary year. And it’s only November. Every committee has contributed to our club’s success. So many of our members work behind the scenes to make sure our club operates smoothly. As a new club president, I have learned a lot about Rotary teamwork!

I am extremely thankful that our two fundraisers were so successful. Not only did they both generate revenue for our club to use to fund our local and worldwide projects, they both brought us together for fun and fellowship. I truly believe the more we work together the stronger our club grows!

All of our club committees and our local foundation are extremely important to the success of our club and Rotary International, so in an effort not to exclude anyone let me end this email by saying a great big THANK YOU to everyone.

Have a great and safe Thanksgiving week!

Yours in Rotary Service,

William F. Rousseau
2012-13 SR Rotary Club President

INVISIBLE MACHINERY

Most of the things that work in today’s modern world are not visible…only the results. On this Thanksgiving Day, we can’t thank them all, but our fellow Rotarians contribute immeasurably to the on-going success of the Rotary Club of Santa Rosa. This week thumb through the first few pages of the Roster. You will see the club officers and directors, The President’s Committees, Past President’s Committees, President Elect Committees, the Club Secretary, Sergeant-at-Arms teams, and more than 25 various chairs. Check out all the names, and at the next Rotary meetings, mention that we appreciate what they do for Rotary. And that includes you.

THANKS FROM THE SANTA ROSARIAN

The weekly newsletter, or “bulletin”, has been part of Santa Rosa Rotary for as long as anyone can remember. No one knows how long ago our weekly bulletin got this name. Or who named it. 91 years is a long time to preserve all the newsletters of the oldest service club in Sonoma County. Since 1921, six generations of Rotarians have written these bulletins by hand or on typewriters, manual, electrics, then digitally on computers. For years, newsletter copy was carried to printing shops, set in lead type, printed on presses, then mimeograph machines, Xerox-type copiers, to modern day print shops. About five years ago, the Rotary Club of Santa Rosa’s weekly bulletin was emailed to growing numbers of  us, then evolved again several weeks ago into a completely digital format.

In spite of digital technology and the Internet, content still relies on living human beings who listen & observe, take photos, scribble notes on real paper, then use memory, recognition, research and skills honed over decades—flavored with imagination, wit, style, and grammar intended to inform, motivate, and bond our club members together. On Thanksgiving Day 2012, it’s only appropriate that we thank that the volunteer photographers—Nicole Le, Diane Moresi, Kris Anderson, and Carrie Ludtke. And reporters Layne Bowen, Mike Truesdell, Don McMillan, Jim Johnson, Matt Everson, Sam Saunders, David Brown, and probably a few others  we can’t recall.

THE NEW GREEN MUSIC CENTER

The musical arts are alive and well in a spectacular new Sonoma County home

In 1928, the Santa Rosa Symphony played its first concert with 35 local musicians at the Elks Club. Initial performances were so well received, that the fledgling group moved to the 1000-seat Santa Rosa High School auditorium, where they remained for more than half a century. When the Luther Burbank Center for the Arts—the long-awaited project of the Rotary Clubs of

The guest speaker at the November 28th Rotary meeting will be Jessica Anderson, the Associate Director of Communications for the Green Music Center at Sonoma State University.
