Our Program For December 6, 2017

HOLIDAY MUSICAL PROGRAM

Host Keven Brown

The joy of beautiful music is an integral part of the holiday season and a traditional program in the first of December for our Rotary Club. Joining us on December 6th will be harpist Christina Zieminski and some members of the Santa Rosa High School Chamber Singers. Kira Bombace is their director. Our own Keven Brown will emcee the program.

Christina began her study of the harp at age 10 and soon after was performing with the Santa Rosa Youth Orchestra and other small groups. Currently, she teaches harp and piano, performs at private events and conducts a children’s choir. Christina is also a Youth Minister at her church and enjoys drawing, painting and gourmet cooking.

Immediately following the meeting we will visit Vigil Lights Senior Housing. Each year, members of the Rotary Club of Santa Rosa sing carols, donate poinsettia plants and provide refreshments for this much-loved event.

SUNSHINE

All is sunny!

CATHY’S A CLOWN

Cathy, bless her heart, told a slightly off color, married people  joke.

RAFFLE

Fred Levin won the cash and promptly donated $100 to the Foundation. Paul Hamilton briefly hijacked Julia’s meeting to give a little Rotary recruiting advice.

FUNDING PRESENTATION

Doug Johnson made a presentation from our Rotary Club to the Santa Rosa Cycling Club of $20,000 to help them recover from the loss of their warehouse to the fire. SRCC provides cycling equipment to support many fundraising rides including Giro Bello, Levi’s Gran Fondo, Tour de Organics, Tour de Fuzz and many more, never taking any money. We’ve had a close reciprocal relationship with SRCC and are very happy to help them on their road to recovery.

PRESIDENTIAL ANNOUNCEMENTS

Julia announced a Christmas ornament exchange for those Rotarians who lost their homes. If you have more ornaments than you can use (and who doesn’t?) bring them to donate to fellow Rotarians next week. Prez Julia also reminded us that each Rotarian from our club is tasked with the sale of 100 raffle tickets. It is very important when selling tickets to be able to answer questions potential buyers might have as to how the money will be dispersed to fire victims and some details are still being worked out on the board level, so stay tuned!

NEW ROTARIAN

Studio artist Rose Frances was inducted by her wife and our Club President, Julia. Welcome Rose!

MORE ANNOUNCEMENTS

Cathy V. is offering a free bottle of pinot for those purchasing raffle tickets next week. Kerrie Chambers asked for bell ringers for next two weekends. Debi Zaft announced the Night of 1,000 Coats event at Sally Tomatoes which takes place on December 11th from 5-9pm. Steve Baime and Judy Glenn asked for volunteers to bake cookies for the Nutcracker December 16th and to help at the event. Neither Steve nor Judi can be there that day, so all help is welcome! Ray Giampaoli thanked those who have purchased raffle tickets and asked members to sell 100 tickets each. Blocks of tickets are available now. Ginny Cannon announced the poinsettia party at Vigil Light senior apartments will be December 6th. 150 poinsettias will be delivered that day. Come to the party and sing carols. Volunteers are still needed to attend and sing carols.Jackie reminded us that Transcendence Theater performance is at 7:30, December 2nd.

ROTARIAN OF THE MONTH

Cathy Vicini was recognized for her generosity, club activity and for the grace she has exhibited with the loss of her home in the fire. She was also forgiven for today’s joke (Hey, it was still better than the one Dan Shell told at the last meeting! 😉 For all this, she was awarded Rotarian of the Month!
