Rotary Dictionaries for KidsRotary Dictionaries for Kids
In January 2000, the Rotary Club of Santa Rosa, through its "Rotary Dictionaries for Kids" Project, raised $25,000 to purchase brand new MacMillan dictionaries to give to nearly 2,000 third grade children and their teachers in Santa Rosa. Now in its ninth year, more than 60 Rotarians hand-delivered dictionaries to 30 elementary schools. Our goal was a simple one: we wanted to encourage children to be curious about learning and to help them incorporate reading into their lives.

Larry Bello Rotary District 5130 Vocational Scholarship
In 2005, Rotary District 5130 will be awarding the Larry Bello Rotary District 5130 Vocational Scholarship to a graduating high school senior. This special $1,000 scholarship will be awarded to a student from District 5130 who is planning to attend a technical or vocational program that leads to a certificate and/or associate degree at an accredited community college, trade or technical school in District 5130 in the Fall 2005.

The Bello Scholarship has been established as a memorial to the late Lawrence P. "Larry" Bello who served as the District Governor of Rotary District 5130 during 1997-98. Larry was a Rotarian for 30 years and consistently supported a wide variety of youth oriented programs. He took a special interest in vocational education and encouraged his fellow Rotarians to develop programs to support young people pursuing careers in technical and vocational fields. It is, therefore, most appropriate that Larry's friends, family, business associates and fellow Rotarians have established this scholarship in Larry's memory.

Scholarship applications must be submitted directly to Walt Hussey, District Secretary, Rotary Club of Petaluma Valley, 4216 Petaluma Blvd North, Petaluma, CA 94952. The postmark deadline for applications is March 15, 2008.

Contributions to the Larry Bello Scholarship Fund are tax deductible as allowable by law and can be made payable to the Rotary Club of Santa Rosa Foundation. Please mail your donation to the Rotary Club of Santa Rosa Foundation, P.O. Box 505, Santa Rosa, CA 95402, and indicate Bello Fund in the memo line of the check.
