Jerry Miller is the Senior Dean of Career and Technical Education and Economic Development at Santa Rosa Junior College.
CTE/ED is comprised of 15 departments spread throughout 10 academic clusters, offering training and education for 160+ career certificates and associate degrees.
These programs prepare students to be successful for the dynamic workforce of our local industries and to further their education by transferring to four-year institutions.
NOTE: Wednesday, October 3rd’s meeting , we will be meeting in the bar/lounge area. This area is to the right of the reservation desk, down the hall to the left

SUNSHINE REPORT:
Ginny Cannon says that Roy Thylin had a fall last Sunday from a bad reaction to new medicine that effected his balance. He’s OK and recovering at home. Jack Abercrombie is still weak but doing well.
RAFFLE:
A whopping $45.00 in the pot with 7 marbles. Kim Graves had the correct ticket 2 weeks in a row! Doesn’t matter she still did not win the pot but was happy to have $10.00.

Vickie Hardcastle announced Bob Rogers Pedal for Polio ride on October 4th. He wants to raise $140,000. That would be about $65.00 per person in District 5130; for $100 you get a Polio Plus bracelet.
World Polio Day is October 24th.
District 5130 Rotary Foundation meeting for the South is on October 27st at the Doubletree in Rohnert Park. Keep an eye on your email for more details.
District 5130 Rotary Foundation Celebration will be a brunch this year on October 28th at the Doubletree in Rohnert Park. Details have been emailed to you.
Karen Ball says that you can now pay on line $270 to prepay for all lunches in the 4th quarter. The last day to pay is September 30th.

Yale Abrams announced a Hands-on Project Day for Saturday, October 6th at the Laguna de Santa Rosa Foundation. So, if you are not helping at the Gran Fondo, please see him to sign up to work.
Steve Baime can get us discounted tickets for the Santa Rosa symphony performance on November 3rd. If you would like to go, send him an email. The more people who go, the more of a discount we get!
Finally, regarding our lunch; if you are buying only dessert please take the SMALL plate. You can always have seconds but you must use only ONE PLATE. So, don’t let the wait staff take your plate away. We are charged by how many plates that we use.
RECOGNITIONS:
Michael Moore has moved, again. He and his wife have moved for their 8th time not to mention they have sold 3 other investment homes since joining Rotary. He is writing a big fat check.
Larry Miyano has a newer BMW, but his older BMW had to be towed for a broken radiator (my old BMW had the radiator replaced, twice. Must be a BMW thing).
Kris Anderson was traveling, again. This time to Friday Harbor, WA for a girl’s weekend. She brought back some tea, cookies and perennial flower seed from Butchart Gardens. Dan Balfe paid $35.00 for the package.
WORLD POLIO DAY IS ON OCTOBER 24TH:
Tony had a video called, “Why Zero Matters” for us on the history of polio in the 20th century and where we are now. Only 74 worldwide cases in 2016 in Pakistan, Afghanistan and Nigeria.
PROGRAM: DAN STAMPS AND THE FRIENDS OF TRIONE-ANNADEL STATE PARK (FOTASP)
Hard to believe this group was just founded in September 2017. Dan listed the names of the board members (looking to expand) and the park personnel. One could quickly see that volunteers are needed.
They met with several groups that actively use the park and found that safety and park recovery from the fire last October were the common issues. Dan recalls that they had a work day planned to spread ½ yard of gravel and they had 20 volunteers ready to work, but no way to pay for the gravel! So, they do fund raising and 100% of the funds goes to the park. They have 3 work days a month support by the Redwood Empire Mountain Bike Association, Redwood Empire Runners and Sonoma county Trail Riders Council, among others.
It costs as much as $500,000 to run the park each year. The parking lot on Channel Drive brings in $10,000 so FOTASP is will help raise the rest. As many as $30,000+ visitors use the park every month. The October fire did a lot of damage, but a lot of good too. Flowers that have not bloomed for 20 years have appeared. Their current goals are to improve the trails, make the park safer, more signage, learning resources and permanent funding for the park. 5000 acres and 100 miles of trail is a lot to maintain.
In 1957 the park came close, twice, to being developed with as many as 4000 homes. When the City of Santa Rosa required all the utilities to be under ground it made the subdivision unaffordable to be built.
A Message From Past District Governor Bob Rogers
“Rotary…Where Dreams Take Flight.” Hello District 5130 Rotarians…Past District Governor Bob Rogers here following up on the “Ideation” process begun at our District Conference this past May. We promised to get you all the ideas that came from those incredible sessions. We hope these will become “sparks” toward new efforts and initiatives to address these club, community and beyond issues. Our plan is to issue them at the rate of two per month. With this email, we are starting the process with the first two, Educating Children to be Better Citizens and Attracting New Members for Clubs, by including them as attachments. I think you’ll find plenty of new ideas for both challenges in these documents, particularly for your youth related Committees and your Membership Committee members.
Some history for those who could not attend. We sent out a survey to all Rotarians last December, where we took your responses and picked the top 8 challenges we, as Rotarians, should focus on at the District Conference’s brainstorming “Ideation” Sessions.
Here they are in their order of ranking and the dates we’re “releasing” the results in the months ahead (Please note: All of the results will be posted on the Rotary5130.org website).
