Sorensen-Chase Fund for Excellence in Education Honoring Bob & Marge Sorensen and Dan & Judy Chase
(Update on the donation match program)
On May 3, 2017 Doug Chase announced the establishment of the Sorensen-Chase Fund for Excellence in Education to the membership of the Rotary Club of Santa Rosa. The fund was created to honor current member Robert Sorensen and his late wife Marge as well of Doug’s parents, the late Dan & Judy Chase. Several members of the Chase and Sorensen Families have generously contributed to the fund and the opportunity is now exists for Rotarians and other members of the community to contribute. For a period of 60 days, the Chase Family is offering to match dollar for dollar the contributions to the fund with a cap of $10,000. Doug is also planning a summer BBQ for donors who contribute $100 or more during the 60 period ending June 30, 20217. I’m pleased to report that $3,200 has been contributed during the first two weeks of the matching program thanks to the generosity of over 30 Rotarians.
If you have not contributed, please consider doing so prior to June 30th so we can take advantage of the matching contribution. If you know others outside of Rotary that want to support the “Fund for Excellence in Education” please have them send their contributions to the Rotary Club of Santa Rosa Foundation, PO Box 1513, Santa Rosa, CA. 95402. Potential contributors should be aware that this fund is not just another scholarship fund. According to Doug, “the fund is to provide money for education, high school and college, with either scholarship funding for college expenses and/or grants to help education projects in high school or college”.
Robert Sorensen and the late Dan Chase were long serving professors at Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo. Robert served in the Psychology Department and Dan served in the Agribusiness Department. Contributions to this fund would be a great way to honor their outstanding service to education and most importantly the students that passed through their classroom doors.
