Flying Through The Gut-Wrenching Hurricane

Dr. Lucrezia Ricciardulli, Scientist

Remote Sensing Systems –
Don’t miss this fascinating presentation as Dr. Lucrezia Ricciardulli takes us flying through the gut-wrenching Hurricane Dorian (seven times) as the monster storm pummeled the Bahamas with 185-mph winds on August 28th. Dr. Lucrezia Ricciardulli, a scientist who specializes in the satellite measurement of ocean conditions, relished the chance to go inside one of the planet’s most powerful and destructive weather events.

Opening Ceremonies with former president Will Haymaker, “Aloha!”

Pledge:  Ray Giampaoli
Reflection: Kathy Schwartz read a couple of stories on random acts of kindness

Visiting Rotarians:

None

Guests:

Wes Daniels, Sarah Trejo Everson, Tasia Henderson

Raffle:

Nour Maxwell was running the show today.  $82.00 in the pot.  Jeff Kolin’s number was drawn….and he won!  He gave half his winnings to Polio Plus!

Sunshine:

Robby Fouts contracted a shingles-like infection, so he will be out for a bit.

Rotarian of the Month:

WILL HAYMAKER!  Will has been a very active volunteer and member of our club since he joined in 1985.  He served as president 2002-2003 (Michael Moore served as president of Santa Rosa Sunrise that same year). He and Joann are moving to the South Bay to be near their son and family. We are going to miss him! Maybe he will scout out a Rotary club down there. If so, they will be lucky to have him.

Birthdays for January, February and March:

Somehow, we have missed celebrating birthdays?  President Cathy had all Rotarians with recent birthdays get up so we could sing to them.  She had the current Rotary theme “The World Unites Us” pin for each one as a present!

Announcements:

Socials are on the Calendar for March 19th at Los Molcajetes and April 16th at Kunde.  Flyers were on the tables and will be on the Facebook pages and in the newsletter.  RSVP to Kathy Schwartz. Ted Wilmsen is still looking for stray dictionaries.  Plus reminding all that they can buy dictionaries for $10.00.

Will Haymaker is in a fining Mood (these past presidents sure know how to fine members!)

Michael Moore was fined for talking too much when he does the raffle. Kathy Schwartz was fined for being too darn nice. Fred was fined for coming to the club as a guest of Will’s and not wife Jeanne.  Pete Lescure was fined and so was Robert Pierce.

PROGRAM: GIRO BELLO 10TH ANNIVERSARY

RAY GIAMPAOLI (who is the chairperson of Giro Bello) gave us a guided tour of the new Giro Bello website.  Much more attractive and easier to navigate for sign ups and volunteering. Great job Ray!

Ray asked for volunteers to cover various positions for Giro Bello. Bill, Kim, Charlie, Julia and Bill raised their hand to help. Thank you, Rotarians for stepping up and volunteering!

*Secretary of State for Sponsorships = Bill Rousseau: The job is data input into Excel and working with Outlook for email to the sponsors.

*Beer Meister = Kim Murphy: Lagunitas can’t help us anymore with beer.  We need 8 kegs and 8 cases of beer from a local brewery or two.

*Ring Master = Charlie Howard-Gibbon: Identifying vendors to support the expo and get them signed up

*Demolition Woman = Julia Parranto: Supervise the take down of the expo

*Super Dooper Pooper Trouper = Bill Hatcher: Communicate with the Port-o-potty vendor for pickup and delivery to all locations.

Giro Bello Marketing overseer Matthew Henry said we now have links added to Facebook, Twitter and Instagram pages.  He asked us to “like” them all and “share” and new content.  If you go to sport shops, bike shops or gyms, please bring by flyers. Post the signs on lawns or in businesses.

Secretary’s Membership Notes

Secretary Zaft would like to inform the membership that Layne Bowen and Kim Graves are on an approved leave of absence.

The following members have decided to leave the club:  Rich DeLambert, Dan Schell, Steve Marburger, Peggy Soberanis and Bart Eddy.   In addition, Jack Abercrombie and Will Haymaker are both leaving Santa Rosa to live by their children.  They all will be missed!
