If anyone would like to donate money to GRA (Global Rotaract Alumni Club) they can donate the money on the GOSC site and include a note that it is for GRA. This would help us tremendously to continue growing as a club and be able to conduct larger scale projects. Here is the donation link: Donate Now – Global Offsite Care
President Casey’s Debunking
Casey D’Angelo is officially a “Past President.” If you were at the debunking, you know how much fun we had! Your Bulletin Editor believes we had at least 40 members and guests. Sonoma County Catering brought in the food. Ann and Jeff Gospe had the Rotary wine stash, plus lemonade and tea. Matthew Henry brought his “special” drink to share. I believe it was gin and lemonade with lavender and sage. Quite good!
As an aside, Matthew and his brother run a podcast after the Giants games. They always have a special cocktail for each show. I am waiting for a cookbook, “The Best of the Henry Brothers Cocktails.”
The skit this year was based around Casey’s time in the education system, the Peace Corp, wedding cake baker, and Robert Pierce’s fines over the last year.
The opening scene was of the nominating committee and their decision to nominate Casey. We also had a little fun at Ann Gospe’s expense (not to mention a few others too!).
Scene two was Casey’s first meeting. We got Matthew Henry to play the part of Casey with a few props that Pam D’Angelo lent to us. Julia Parranto got out of control with the Pledge of Allegiance. Jeanne Leven was equally out of control with the Four Way Test. President Casey asks Fred Leven to say a prayer, which he gave in Yiddish. Robert starts fining Casey, and it all goes wild!
Scene three was our last meeting before Christmas. Casey was out of town with family in London, England, so Past President Julia is running our annual trivia meeting – in a Santa Costume. Well, the game goes off the rails. The script team decided to have a little fun with Casey meeting up with Internation President Stephanie Urchick (of course he really didn’t). Rumors fly that he is trying out for the Food Network or maybe the Great British Bake Off. Not to mention he was going to challenge Guy Fieri in a cooking contest. Even Debi Zaft got a ribbing!
Scene four was Casey’s last meeting as president. He spoke of our new award “Best Rotary Club in the Universe” and who he buttered up to get it. The other awards from District 5130 were:
– International Award for doing projects with Intergalactic Reach
– Governor’s Citation for Championship Mud Wrestling
– Stupendously Fantastic Unbelievably Outrageous Club of the Century
– Robert is still fining Casey! This time for not wearing a pin, again, and not mentioning all the REAL things our club did this year (quite a lot!). And then more fines! Robert says, “Silver lining, Casey. I’ve just helped you become a Major Donor!
“Narrator: And so ends the “Saga of Casey D’Angelo.” In reality (a place we rarely visit) he has led the club in a year of local and international accomplishments. Thank you, Casey, for all you’ve done, and thank you Pam for all the support that you gave him, the time and space to lead the club this past year. Thank you all for being Rotarians (ring bell). Excused for recess until July 2nd!”
Rotarian of the Year:
This is the outgoing president’s final act. And as usual, the person getting the award had no clue. She pretty much looked like a deer in headlights when some hints made her think, “No way!” She tried not to cry, but a couple of tears escaped. Yes, your bulletin editor got the honor this year. All she can say is, “Thank you. I love this club.”
