Exchange Students
Larry Miyano & Craig Meltzner
Meet Tommy Abel & Ardie Martono
Santa Rosa Rotary’s Outbound & Inbound Exchange Students to Finland and from Indonesia
Every year Rotary clubs in more than 100 countries sponsor more than 8,000 high school students worldwide who leave their home country as student ambassadors for a life-changing year in another country. Exposure to different cultures ranks as one of the most powerful ways to promote international understanding and peace, and these intrepid students have left their homes and families for a year to learn a new language, discover another culture, and truly become global citizens.
Tommy Abel, age 19 and a graduate of Maria Carrillo High School, recently returned from a year as our club’s outbound student to a rural town of 12,000 in southwestern Finland.
Ardie Martono, age 17, arrived in August and is a senior at Santa Rosa High School. Ardie hails from Surabaya, a port city of 3.5 million people on the island of Java, Indonesia, located below the equator in Southeast Asia and in the largest Muslim country in the world.
Please join us to hear these Rotary exchange students share about their lives in Finland and Indonesia, as well as their unique perspectives about Santa Rosa, the United States and how they’ve grown and changed as a result of Rotary youth exchange.
