Lance Memorial Leadership Award & Scholarship honors former Santa Rosa civic leader Stanley L. Lance. Lance, the former owner of Santa Rosa’s Eggen & Lance Mortuary was a fixture in Sonoma County’s civic and cultural life for the past half-century, assuming leadership roles in everything from the Rotary Club to the Sonoma County Trail Blazers.
He served on the school board for 10 years and was on the Sonoma County Grand Jury. In 1954 he was named Santa Rosa’s “Man of the Year” by the Chamber of Commerce.
Lance was a founding director of the Santa Rosa YMCA, co-chairman of the Rose Festival, president of the Sonoma County Chapter of the Cancer Society, president of the March of Dimes and a director of the Red Cross and Santa Rosa Chamber of Commerce.
He joined the Rotary Club of Santa Rosa in 1947 and served as its president in 1959-60. In 1966-67, he was a District Governor of Rotary, overseeing membership in an area that stretched from Santa Cruz to the Oregon border.
