DIGITAL EDITION No. 159 January 20, 2016 EDITOR: Kris Anderson PHOTOGRAPHER: Elizabeth Karbousky
Our Program for January 27th:
BAY AREA SPORTS HALL OF FAME
Keith Woods will be our speaker. Mr. Woods has conducted customer service training in the North Bay and throughout the nation for nearly 20 years. The humor, innovation and common sense he injects into his programs have made him a popular presenter to over 5,000 employees in businesses, professional firms, governmental agencies, and education institutions alike.
In addition to his customer service training, Keith serves as the Chief Executive Officer of the North Coast Builders Exchange, an 1800-member construction industry association. He was also the President/CEO of the Santa Rosa Chamber of Commerce for 13 years. Keith will share fascinating inside stories about the Bay Area Sports Hall of Fame and, if asked, give us his take on the state of affairs in Santa Rosa, as only Keith can do!

PROGRAM
This week was our annual Public Safety Awards. Always one of our most popular programs! We had lots of non-Rotarian quests, visiting Rotarians and friends and family of our award recipients. Of special note, Terry Abramson, Jim Gerien and Jim Johnson were noted as the founders for these special awards.
As she has done for the last few years Marnie Goldschlag was our emcee. She is perfect for the part due to the fact that she knows so many in the police and fire departments in Santa Rosa.
First she introduced the heads of the police department, Chief Hank Schreeder, and fire department, Fire Chief Anthony Gossner. Their resumes are long and very distinguished, but too much for this bulletin editor to write down. I suspect their resumes are on the City websites should you care to read them.
This year’s recipient from the fire department is Fire Engineer Scott Byrn. He was chosen by his department for a call that happened just before the end of 2015. A house was on fire and a man was said to still be in the home. Scott went in and got him out. As chief Anthony Gossner said, it is not often that they do such a dramatic rescue, but when it needs to be done there are firemen like Scott and his team that know their jobs and do it.
Next up was Chief Hank Schreeder to introduce Tim Doherty. In Tim’s case he was called to assist a man who had cut his wrist with a knife. When Scott got there the man was unresponsive. He found a piece of plastic to use as a tourniquet and saved the man’s life. All told it took about a minute upon Tim’s arrival at the scene to analyze the situation and go to work. Tim credits those who arrive with him for their part in saving the man’s life.
NEXT WEEK’S PROGRAM
