Opening Ceremonies:

After President Kris rang the bell and welcomed us to the meeting, Past President Ray Giampaoli led us in the reciting of the Pledge of Allegiance and the Four-Way Test. His Reflection was a quote from a song from the 1960’s. “Let there be peace on earth and let it begin with me.”

Visitors:

Janice Stradford, Bill English, Richard Fennel, and Martin from the Arlene Frances Center

Raffle:

$34 in the pot and Bill Hatcher had the right number. However, he did not pull the blue marble.

Sunshine Report:

We think Cecil is home. He has been coy about his hospital visit. Richard Lazovick has shingles. A moment of silence was held for Past District Governor Bruce Campbell who passed away in Sparks, Nevada. A celebration of his life will be held in Sonoma County in the future.

Professional Photos Scheduled for August 10th:

Robert Pierce is setting up to take photos of club members at the August 10th meeting. The cost is $100 for the sitting. You cannot get a professional photo for that price! So come to the meeting and he will make you look “absolutely marvelous.”

Announcements:

The Ken Moulton Leadership Academy will be offered November 18-19, 2022, at the Santa Rosa Junior College. The cost is $150.00. This is a great class if you are looking for some leadership training for the club or in your professional life. Sorry, it is not in the club budget to pay for everyone.

Karen Ball reminded us that the bill for dues is now due. She clarified that the “recognition” portion of the bill is charged if you have not paid a recognition to the “club administration.”

Call her with your questions.

Recognitions:

Ray and Jodi Giampaoli finally went on their postponed Alaskan Cruise. They had a wonderful time and Ray donated $50.00 to the club.

Today’s guest speakers Janice Stradford on Project Quetzel:

Much like Project Amigo, Janice and Bill were traveling in Guatemala and found that children in the indigenous communities did not do well in school because they did not speak Spanish. There are at least 23 different languages in Guatemala. Schools in Guatemala start with first grade when the children are seven years old. Those children in the indigenous speaking areas did not speak Spanish, so they often flunked out of school. Project Quetzel runs preschools for children ages 4-6 and teaches Spanish as part of the curriculum. Janice and Bill have started 9 preschools are looking to establish more. They recruit women who are educated to be the teachers in their communities.

We also gave a minute for Martin from the Arlene Francis Center to talk about the Salsa Rosa Orquestra event that Odalis Medianero invited us to last week (President Kris went).

Club Job Openings:

Still need a few bulletin writers. Need a person on the board for Vocational Service Recognition
