President Mark started the meeting with his annual theme: “Where Fellowship and service come together…..in this case, for Mark’s debunking!”

OPENING CEREMONIES

The pledge was led by Nona Lucas. Elizabeth Karbousky led us in a thought for the day. It was noticed at our table, during the opening ceremonies that the Fashion Police were going to be writing a lot of citations this day. Mike Kallhoff – no one can get away with a shirt like that! Dan Schell? Nice knee high socks, buddy!

GUESTS OF ROTARIANS

Kathy Schwartz, who has turned in an application to the club (and hopefully didn’t rescind it after Mark’s debunking!) and Eric Goldschlag who has retired from the police force and is now the Fashion Police we were just talking about! Ryan Thomas was in charge of visiting Rotarians, but I don’t believe we had any this day.

SUNSHINE, blow away the rain, don’t feel much like dancin’……..

It was announced that Peggy Sobranis’ husband was ill today, but no details. Hopefully, all is ok.

RAFFLE

Bill Hatcher announced that Paul Hamilton drew his own ticket. Paul’s luck ran out at the marbles, though and he walked away like the Monopoly game fellow who won $10 for second place in a beauty contest.

ANNOUNCEMENTS

Doug Johnson made one last push for volunteer help at Giro Bello.

Jack Abercrombie asked that anyone with a new address, phone number or other information let him know before publication of the roster for the new Rotary year.

IS IT POSSIBLE TO DO YOUR OWN POST MORTEM?

President Mark did just that, citing goals that were accomplished as well as those goals and ideas that fell short of hopes or expectations. Goals that were achieved included more interesting meetings, more hands on projects and participation, and a shedding of the clubs apparent “lone wolf” image. In true Mark fashion, charts and graphs were used to illuminate his points. A few ideas didn’t take hold, such as evening meetings, but hey, it was worth a shot.

ROTARIAN OF THE YEAR

Matt Fannin has been quietly doing A LOT for the club this year leading the Membership Committee. Great job, Matt!

THANK YOU

Finally, President Mark thanked all of those who weekly, make the meetings work including Jack Geary, Dan Schell, Cathy Vicini, Ann Gospe, Debi Zaft, Roy Thylin, Jack Abercrombie and Cecil Humes.

PROGRAM

The program was, of course President Mark’s debunking which strangely looked like the scene at the Kate Wolf Festival this writer played this past weekend. I hope someone took lots of photos, because a thousand words couldn’t describe the little play that took place. Suffice it to say that some seem to have the impression that our soon to be ex- president might have been some kind of hippie at one time (although a very industrious and successful hippie!)

The play showed Mark trying to herd cats, er, hippies into a cohesive unit of Rotarians. While Mark was watching this, he probably thought, “Uh, yeah, that’s pretty accurate! It really WAS like herding cats this year!” Robbie Fouts did his best acting in the style of John Wayne (who some say never acted in his life, but was merely himself in every movie). Another ex-prez, Bill Rousseau was somewhat less believable as a dope smoking slacker. OTOH, he IS a guv’ment employee! Other notable performances were given by Marnie Goldschlag who I could have seen screaming at a Beatles concert back in the day and Yale Abrams, just because……

Finally, our resident conservative Fred Levin called the cops on this drugged out performance and Sgt, Goldschlag, came in and busted some “heads” (get it?) and in his new role as the Fashion Police, cited several participants for wearing historically inaccurate clothing for the 60’s…….President Mark – consider yourself debunked!
