Student Leader & Financial Literacy Advocate
Ruben Garcia
As Student Body President at Santa Rosa Junior College (SRJC), Ruben has revitalized student engagement, strengthened institutional resources, and fostered collaboration between students and administration. He also serves as Treasurer for Region II of the Student Senate for California Community Colleges (SSCCC), representing nearly 200,000 students statewide.
Recognizing the urgent need for financial literacy, Ruben co-founded the Student Investment Program (SIP) —the first student-led investment fund at a U.S. community college. By securing $20,000 in funding and working with faculty, administrators, and legal advisors, he built a self-sustaining initiative that provides students with hands-on investment experience. Now, he is advocating for a $1 million pilot program to expand SIP to community colleges across California.
